报告人简介：

Dr. Ranjan Kumar Dahal, a professional geology engineer and geohazard expert of Nepal has been working in the research field of geohazards such as earthquake, landslide and debris flow for the last 20 years. He has completed PhD and PostDoc in geohazards and specialized in landslide, debris flow and earthquake risk research and management. At present, he is serving Tribhuvan University as Associate Professor in Geodisaster Research Center, Central Department of Geology. From the research and academic perspective, he has published more than 50 technical/scientific papers in peer reviewed international and national journals. He is also author of one book and co-authored three books. Based on his excellent credential and academic contribution, he has been awarded as Young Scientist of Nepal in 2009 by Nepal Academy for Science and Technology (NAST) and in 2010, he has been nominated as Fellow Academician in NAST. He is serving Kagawa University, Japan as visiting professor, and Ehime University, Japan as visiting associate professor. Dr. Dahal has worked on various research projects, training courses and consulting projects related to geohazard risk assessment in many different countries, such as Japan, Taiwan, and India.

He is the Management Director of International Consortium of Geodisaster Reduction (ICGdR) and works in close coordination with geohazard experts of Japan, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, USA and European countries for geodisaster reduction for the benefit of human society and the natural environment, and capacity development, including education. He is the Associate-Editor-in-Chief of Springer Open Journal of Geoenvironmental Disasters where geohazards related articles are submitted from all around the world and Dr. Dahal is responsible for critical review and editing of all technical papers. He is also serving International Journal of Landslide and Environment (IJLE) as Associate-Editor-in-Chief. He is also associated with Himalaya Conservation Group (HCG) as Chief Technical Adviser and involved in advocating research based policy making concepts in Nepal. He was assigned as special expert for the Sunkoshi Landslide Dam rescue and response program of Government of Nepal in 2013 and he had helped Nepal Army to open landslide dam in a manageable way. After 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, Government of Nepal has nominated him in National Reconstruction Consulting Committee as a member. With such a long expertise and exposure of national as well as international geohazard research, he is serving Nepal for suitable mitigation practice for landslides and earthquake resist buildings. Dr. Dahal has started new technology of rock fall hazard mitigation for Nepal with the help his Austrian colleagues. His team has customized rock fall hazard mitigation system installation process and he already applied for patent with the Government of Nepal. And having vested interest to use research findings in implementation, he has been continuously advocating for research based sustainable mitigation and prevention practice of geohazards in Nepal.
